Michelle received a 3-year, $325,000 IMLS early career research to study the users of community-based archives in Southern California.

Michelle is a member of the U.S. Delegation to the Mandela Dialogues on Memory Work 2, a program organized by the Nelson Mandela Foundation in South Africa and the German Global Leadership Academy that convenes an international dialogue series for thought leaders and change agents in the field of memory work. As part of the series, she is participating in weeklong dialogues in Cape Town, South Africa and Colombo, Sri Lanka, as well as a national immersion trip to Chicago.

Michelle's article, "'The Archive is not An Archives: Acknowledging the Intellectual Contributions of Archival Studies," is out in the journal Reconstruction.

Together with Ricky Punzalan and T-Kay Sangwand, Michelle is guest editing a special issue of the Journal of Critical Library and Information Studies on Critical Archival Studies.
